The Carnegie Minstrels will be perform Joseph Martin’s “Let There Be Christmas” for the 2018 community cantata, and area vocal and instrumental musicians are encouraged to participate.

Matter of Balance series Mondays and Fridays
ACE of Southwest Minnesota, Luverne, will offer a series of classes designed to improve strength and balance for seniors. Historical Society dinner Sept. 17
The Rock County Historical Society will host its annual dinner meeting Monday, Sept. 17, at Sterling’s in downtown Luverne. Blue Mound Church Fall Festival planned for Sept. 16
The Blue Mound Lutheran Church Fall Festival will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, celebrating 146 years at the rural church located northeast of the Blue Mounds State Park. A noon meal will be catered by the Blue Mound Cemetery Association. The Rev. Eldon Thurow, pastor from 1972-1976, will be the guest pastor.

Optimist Club kids’ fishing derby set for Sept. 16
The Luverne Optimist Club is hosting a kids’ fishing derby for ages 5-15 at the Minnesota Veterans Home pond from 2-5 p.m. (fishing from 2:30-4:30) Sunday, Sept. 16. All children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult and bring their own fishing equipment. (Call to reserve a pole.) The event is free and hot dogs and beverages will be served following the event. Over $500 in prizes will be given out. Hospice Cottage 20th Anniversary Open House Sept. 17
Sanford Luverne Hospice will host a celebration in appreciation of the generosity shown to the Cottage in the past 20 years. The Open House and Community Appreciation Barbecue will be from 4-7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17, with a 6 p.m. butterfly release. The free meal will be served under the tent until gone. Schultz featured at BackPack/Child Guide fundraiser Sept. 19
Mark Schultz, a contemporary Christian singer, will perform at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, at the American Reformed Church in Luverne. The concert is a fundraiser for the BackPack and Child Guide programs at Luverne Public School. Tickets are available at Wildflowers Coffee Boutique or at ARC for $20 for adults and $10 for students.

Auditions for ‘Best Christmas Ever’ Sept. 23-24
Green Earth Players community theater group will host auditions for their next production, “Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday, Sept. 23 and 24, at the new West Main Street location. Actors of both genders and all ages are encouraged to audition for more than 20 roles in the play. Actors of all abilities will be needed, in addition to members for a children’s choir.
