Legion Riders make local stops July 14

The American Legion Riders, which support veterans and their children, will participate in a local motorcycle ride Saturday, July 14. The group will stop in Adrian at the Sports Page around 10:30 a.m. and at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Luverne around noon. Community members are encouraged to join them at these locations to learn about the group and about how to support its efforts.

The July 14 ride will specifically raise awareness of the Legacy Scholarship Fund for children of 50-percent disabled veterans or veterans who have lost their lives in service. Call Diane Strassburg, 290-0011 for donation information or for details about the ride.


Races scheduled for July in Luverne

July 12  is the Eighth Annual Wienerman World Championship, a 4-person relay at Luverne Hot Dog Night. Start time is 7 p.m.

July 14 is Tour de Donut Minnesota, a unique bicycle event where eating donuts is as important as riding bicycle.

New Life Celebration Church will offer free food from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 19, in the Luverne Senior Citizen’s Building on East Lincoln Street in Luverne for those having trouble putting food on the table. Bring your own boxes and bags. Call 283-4366 with questions.


Urgent: Red Cross Blood Drive July 23

The American Red Cross is facing an emergency blood shortage and is issuing an urgent call for donors of all blood types to give blood.

Plan now to donate from 1-7 p.m. Monday, July 23, at the Red Cross Blood Drive at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne.

Summer Community Ed hours:  7:30 to 4:00 Monday through Thursday.  Closed on Fridays.  Closed July 16-27 (last 2 weeks in July). Please call by July 10 to register for classes after July 15.

Amazing Experiments is an adventure day camp put on by 4-H members on Friday morning, July 13. Camp is for students who attended grades 1-4 during past school year. Fee is $15.

Survival on the Prairie for grades 3 and older will be offered July 16 at the History Center. Fee is $16 for child/adult pair.

Introduction to Horsemanship for adult/open ages will be July 16. Dress to interact with horses. Fee is $15.

Art Camp to study cartoons, comics and pop art will be three sessions on July 17-19 at Coffey Contemporary Arts.  Fee for children who attended grades K-5 during the past year is $30.

Youth Firearms Trainers are needed here in the Luverne area.  If you are willing to become a trainer, please register for a July 30 class at the Minnesota DNR website.  If you wish to carpool, call Community Education by July 12 to arrange transportation.
