Springwater Township Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, in the home of township clerk Teresa Kramer.

Luverne Area MOMS meet monthly during the school year on the second Wednesday morning of each month. Mothers of young children interested in meeting with other moms are invited. Star Herald early deadline Sept. 2
The Sept. 8 Star Herald will go to press on Tuesday as it always does, but the Labor Day holiday is on Monday, which is the news and ad copy deadline. For this reason, submissions for the Sept. 8 edition of the Star Herald must be received by noon Friday, Sept. 2. Call 283-2333 with questions, or email editor@star-herald.com.
 
Hwy. 15 closed for bridge construction
Rock County Highway 15 (61st Street) will be closed 1 1/2 miles east of Kanaranzi for new bridge construction over Kanaranzi Creek. Construction began Aug. 9, and a signed detour will be in place during the 10 to 14 weeks of construction. For more information contact engineer Mark Sehr at 507-283-5010.
 
Awana Kick-off at First Baptist Sept. 7
Awana, a non-denominational Bible club for youth in kindergarten through 12th grade, will host a Kick-off event at First Baptist Church, Luverne, beginning at 6:55 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7. All are invited. A hot dog supper will be provided for the entire family.
 
Cardinal Gold’n Bowl set for Sept. 9 during football game
The annual Gold’n Bowl is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 9, at the Luverne Public School Football Field before the Luverne-Windom football game.
The Luverne Area Chamber will team up with Gold’n Plump and Glen’s Food Center to serve grilled chicken sandwhiches and chips. Meals cost $3 each. Serving begins at 5:30 p.m.
LHS Cardinal Country clothing and gear will also be for sale at the event.
Food is donated by Gold’n Plump and Glen’s Food Center. Participating in this event supports the Luverne Cardinal Athletic Program and the Luverne Area Chamber.
 
Donate books for Friends of the Library book sale
The Friends of the Library are collecting books for their upcoming book sale event until Monday, Sept. 12, at the Rock County Library during normal business hours. Encyclopedias, textbooks and Reader’s Digest will not be accepted.
 
Friends of the Library book sale set for Sept. 15-17
Friends of the Library book sale will be from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17. Books cost $2 per bag. Friends of the Library can shop early from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14. All books will be free during business hours from Sept. 26 through Oct. 1.
 
Optimist Club sponsors Kids’ Fishing Derby Sept. 18
The Luverne Optimist Club will sponsor a free kids’ fishing derby from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, for ages 5-15 at the Luverne Veterans Pond. Participants need to bring a fishing pole and tackle or call ahead to reserve a pole.
Complimentary hot dogs and beverages will be served after the derby along with prizes and drawings. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
