Caregivers Support Group will meet from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 26, in the conference room of Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Society, Luverne. Anyone caring for a loved one is encouraged to attend.

The public is encouraged to come downtown Luverne Thursday, May 26, from 5 to 7 p.m. to meet Luverne’s new bison mascots, Thunder and Rumble.
Post a selfie with a mascot to the Luverne Chamber Facebook for a chance to win $50.
 
Palace Afternoon Escape to show ‘Race’ May 26
The movie “Race” will be shown as the Afternoon Escape movie Thursday, May 26, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Palace Theatre. Admission is $5.
This month’s movie is sponsored by Hartquist Funeral Home and Sterlings Café and Grille. The movie is based on the story of legendary athlete Jesse Owens and his inspiring journey to overcome racism at home and abroad, culminating in his triumphant track-and-field performance at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. The movie is rated PG-13.
 
Disney’s ‘The Jungle Book’ at Palace Theatre
 The movie “The Jungle Book” will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, May 27, through Monday, May 30, at the Palace Theatre. Tickets are $5 for children age 3 through 12th grade and $7 for adults. The movie is rated PG.
 
Rock County Master Gardeners annual garden tour
Join the Rock County Master Gardeners for their annual tour Monday, June 20. The bus will leave promptly at 6:30 p.m. from the south side of the school to tour gardens in the Luverne area. Pre-registration is necessary to secure seating. To reserve space or if you have questions contact Sheila Steinhoff at 507-283-1302. Rain date is Tuesday, June 21.
 
 Mike Frisch offers ‘School of Fish’ and ‘Walleye School’ June 2
Professional fisherman and guide Mike Frisch returns to Luverne to do a “School of Fish” Thursday, June 2, for children grade three and older (during the 2015-2016 school year) with an adult friend. Fee is $30 per child/adult pair. In addition to great fishing information and stories, each child will receive a new rod and reel, tackle with a tackle box, a fishing resource book, a $10 Cabela’s gift card, a T-shirt, snacks and a chance to be a guest on the television show “Fishing the Midwest.”
“Walleye School” for adults begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 2, in the Community Education classroom. Cost is $30. Mike Frisch will share techniques for jig fishing, shallow-water live bait rigging, bottom bouncer fishing and others as well as how to use a sonar/GPS effectively.
 
Bank Nite movie ‘Kung Fu Panda 3’ at Palace June 2
The free Bank Nite movie, “Kung Fu Panda 3,” rated PG, will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.
Sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants National Bank and Papik Motors, a free, family-friendly movie is shown on the first Thursday of every month as it was done for “Bank Nite” in the 1930s. A cash prize drawing will follow the movie. Must be present to win.
 
Summer Reading Program registration begins Tuesday, May 31
Be a good sport and sign up for the 2016 Summer Reading Program, open to all ages from pre-K through 12th grade at the Rock County Library. Registration starts Tuesday, May 31. For information contact the library at 507-449-5040.
 
Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast
Men’s Annual Community Prayer Breakfast is at 6:30 a.m. Friday, June 3, in the Blue Mound Banquet Center to kick off the Buffalo Days weekend in Luverne. Speaker is Cory Grimm. Cost is $10.
 
Farmers Market begins June 2
The first Luverne Farmers Market of the season will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 2, at Redbird Field. Farmers Market continues Thursdays through October 26. Watch for the signs on Main Street.
 
Community Bible Study for women begins June 8
The Luverne Christian Reformed Church invites all women in the area to a 7-week Bible study by Priscilla Shirer titled “The Armor of God,” beginning at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 8. To order a book, call 507-283-8726 by May 18.
 
Book Club/Domestic Violence Support Group begins June 7
Book Club/Domestic Violence Support Group will begin meeting from 9:30-11 a.m Tuesdays starting June 7 and continuing for 6 weeks  (location to be announced.)  The group will read New York Times bestseller, “Crazy Love,” by Leslie Morgan Steiner.
