Meetings
Generations (formerly Luverne Senior Citizens) will meet at 12:30 p.m. Monday, May 5, at the Generations building on East Lincoln Street. Members and those wishing to become members or hear what is happening at Generations are welcome.
Blue Mound Quilters will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, May 6, at the Rock County Community Library. Program will be quilted iron carrier by Denice Dirks.
Springwater Township Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, at the new townhall.
American Legion Auxiliary #123 will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, in the Legion Hall. Call Dianna at 507-283-1934 with questions.
Lady Luverne Red Hats will meet at 11 a.m. Friday, May 10, to carpool from St. Catherine’s east parking lot to Pipestone for lunch at the Stone House and shopping. Call Connie at 283-8470.
Sanford Luverne Pink Ladies will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 13, in Sanford Luverne Blue Mound Room for a program by registered dietitian Ann Marie Busker. Call 283-2297 with questions.
Hardwick Goal Seekers meet every Monday in Hardwick City Hall for the purpose of support and encouragement for weight loss journeys. Weigh-in begins at 6 p.m., and the meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Call Glenda, 449-0568, with questions.

National Day of Prayer May 2
National Day of Prayer will be observed from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in Grand Prairie Events. Call Karla Osterday, 507-227-4732.
 
‘Movie Music’ pops concert on stage May 2
The Luverne Middle and High School choirs will present their spring pops concert titled “Movie Music” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 2, in the Cardinal gymnasium. Admission is $6 for adults and $4 for students. Activity passes are also accepted.
 
Bank Nite movie ‘Missing Link’ May 2
The free Bank Nite family movie, “Missing Link,” rated PG, will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.
Sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants National Bank and Papik Motors, a free, family-friendly movie is shown on the first Thursday of every month as it was done for “Bank Nite” in the 1930s. A cash prize drawing will follow the movie. Must be present to win.
 
Community Ed bike rodeo May 4
The Community Education bike rodeo begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4, in the south parking lot of  Luverne Elementary School. Ken Petersen will be on hand to do minor bike repairs and check equipment, and participants may enter a drawing for $500 in prizes.
 
Gun safety class begins May 6
A gun safety youth training class will be offered through the Rock County Sheriff’s Office beginning at 7 p.m. Monday, May 6. Call the sheriff’s office at 507-283-5000 for more information.
 
May events offered at Blue Mounds Park
•Slither Critters: Meet at the picnic shelter (cart-in campsite) at 4 p.m. Friday, May 10, to learn why snakes are important to our ecosystem, what kinds of snakes are found in the park, and touch the Animal Ambassador snake. This program is open to all ages and comfort levels.
•Bison Tales: Meet at the picnic shelter (cart-in campsite) at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 11, to learn more about the bison at the park. Touch real pieces of a bison, practice bison communication skills, and make a bison storybook to take home.
•Scent Tracking: Meet at the picnic grounds parking lot at 4 p.m. Friday, May 17, to discover how animals use scent to track their prey and find their way home.
•Campfire Unniversitiy: Meet at the picnic shelter (cart-in campsite) at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, to learn how to make a great campfire for your next outdoor adventure and make your own firestarter to take home.
 
Luverne Loop event May 16
A community celebration of the Loop is set for 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at The Lake. Participants may bike (borrow bikes from Roll on Luverne at GrandStay), walk, or take a golf cart (this night only) to enjoy the Loop. Other promotions and special events are scheduled at The Lake.
A pork loin sandwich meal for $5 per person will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m. until gone. Funds will be matched by Ben Franklin Lodge #114 to support July 4 fireworks. Rain date is May 23.
 
Optimists sand box fill set for May 20
The Luverne Optimist Club will fill sand boxes beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, May 20. To order sand, call Audrey Aanenson at 507-283-2018. Trucks are donated by W&N Construction and Gabrielson Farms, and the sand is donated by W&N.
 
Rock County spring weight restrictions in effect
Spring weight road restrictions are in place on Rock County roadways.
Because of the unpredictability of how weather affects roadway strength, restrictions will remain in place until further notice. Call Rock County Highway Engineer Mark Sehr at 507-283-5010 with questions.
 
County Road 1 bridge reduced to one lane
The bridge over Kanaranzi Creek on Rock County Highway 1 (41st Street) 1/2 mile west of the Rock/Nobles county line is reduced to one lane.  No trucks will be allowed to cross the structure at this time, and a 20,000-pound weight limit is in place.
The restrictions will remain in place for an extended period of time until repairs can be made to the structure. Call Rock County highway engineer Mark Sehr at 507-283-5010 with questions.
 
Community Education releases summer brochure
The Summer Community Education brochure is included in the April 27 Luverne Announcer.
Register by May 15 for lower fees on Summer Rec activities like arts and crafts, tennis, golf, basketball, wrestling, football, sports power camp, volleyball, golf, gymnastics, track, and morning recreation.
Mother’s Day Surprise Kids in the Kitchen class will be May 6 for students in grades K-6. Fee is $18.
Upcoming chartered bus trips include:
*Minnesota Twins Trip is July 21. Fee is $92.
*Guys and Dolls Guthrie Theatre on Aug. 24. Fee is $113.

Trivia Night 7 p.m., Thursday, May 2, at Take 16 on Main Street, Luverne.
Mah Jongg at the library is from 1 to 3 p.m. on Thursdays. Anyone is welcome to learn to play the Chinese game played with tiles printed with various symbols.
Murder at the 80s Prom: A Library Murder Mystery 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16. Call to register.
DIY art night, 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 21. Topic to be determined.
Library hours are Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
