Meetings
Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 16, in St. John Lutheran Church, Luverne. Call 507-530-3307.
Grand Prairie Cemetery Association annual meeting will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at the Grand Prairie Cemetery. Rain location is back room of Orv and Son’s Plumbing in Ellsworth.
Hardwick Goal Seekers meet every Monday in Hardwick City Hall for the purpose of support and encouragement for weight loss journeys. Weigh-in begins at 6 p.m., and the meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Call Glenda, 449-0568, with questions.
Women’s Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. Mondays in the United Methodist Church.

Rock County spring road restrictions lifted May 10
The ending date for spring weight road restrictions was Friday, May 10, on highways under the jurisdiction of the Rock County Highway Department.

May events offered at Blue Mounds Park
•Scent Tracking: Meet at the picnic grounds parking lot at 4 p.m. Friday, May 17, to discover how animals use scent to track their prey and find their way home.
•Campfire University: Meet at the picnic shelter (cart-in campsite) at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 18, to learn how to make a great campfire for your next outdoor adventure and make your own firestarter to take home.
 
Luverne Loop event May 16
A community celebration of the Loop is set for 5-8 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at The Lake. Participants may bike (borrow bikes from Roll on Luverne available at The Lake), walk, or take a golf cart (this night only) to enjoy the Loop. Other promotions and special events are scheduled at The Lake.
A pork loin sandwich meal for $5 per person will be served beginning at 5:30 p.m. until gone. Funds will be matched by Ben Franklin Lodge #114 to support July 4 fireworks. Rain date is May 23.
 
Free food giveaway May 16
New Life Celebration Church will offer free produce, bread and meat from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, May 16, at the Generations building at 319 East Lincoln Street in Luverne for those having trouble putting food on the table. Bring your own bags and boxes. Call 507-283-3466.
 
Grand opening at ambulance garage set for May 18
The new Sanford Luverne ambulance garage will celebrate their grand opening with an open house, tours and refreshments  from 10-11 a.m. Saturday, May 18. The new garage is on Sioux Valley  Drive, just east of the emergency entrance to the hospital.
 
Optimists sand box fill set for May 20
The Luverne Optimist Club will fill sand boxes beginning at 6 p.m. Monday, May 20. To order sand, call Audrey Aanenson at 507-283-2018. Trucks are donated by W&N Construction and Gabrielson Farms, and the sand is donated by W&N.
 
Free meal at UMC May 22
The Luverne United Methodist Church on West Main Street will offer a free meal at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22, open to the community.
 
County Road 1 bridge reduced to one lane
The bridge over Kanaranzi Creek on Rock County Highway 1 (41st Street) 1/2 mile west of the Rock/Nobles county line is reduced to one lane.  No trucks will be allowed to cross the structure at this time, and a 20,000-pound weight limit is in place.
The restrictions will remain in place for an extended period of time until repairs can be made to the structure. Call Rock County highway engineer Mark Sehr at 507-283-5010 with questions.
 
Community Education releases summer brochure
Register by May 15 for lower fees on Summer Rec activities like arts and crafts, tennis, golf, basketball, wrestling, football, sports power camp, volleyball, golf, gymnastics, track, and morning recreation.
There are openings in FamilyU. Year round requests have priority, but now that it is May any open spots could be filled by summer-only requests.
Discovery Time Fall Preschool Classes have openings for this fall for children age 3 or older by Sept. 1, 2019. Early Learning scholarships are available to families who qualify.

Decorate your home or yard with a Hanging Basket that you will make at Harmony Gardens on May 18. Fee is $40 which includes everything needed.
Clay Handbuilding for students grades 7 through adult will explore construction methods on May 22 and 29. Choose from a morning or afternoon session. Fee is $27 plus a $10 material fee. 
Decorate your home or yard with a Succulent Planter that you will make at Harmony Gardens on May 23. Fee is $25 which includes everything needed.
