‘Scent Tracking’ at state park March 9

Sportsman’s Club to serve Wild Game Feed March 9
The Beaver Creek Sportsman’s Club will serve their 29th annual wild game feed from 2-6 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Up the Dam Creek Bar in Beaver Creek.
 
U of M pre-harvest planning in Slayton
Grain farmers and agri-business professionals are encouraged to attend the University of Minnesota Extention meeting “How to Write a Pre-Harvest Marketing Plan” at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the Murray County Fairgrounds 4-H Building in Slayton. Blood drives set for March 11 and 15
The Community Blood Bank will host drives in Adrian from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m. Monday, March 11, at the Adrian Ambulance Garage and in Luverne from 7 to 10:30 a.m. and from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Sanford Luverne. World Day of Prayer March 14
The Women’s World Day of Prayer at the Steen Reformed Church in Steen has been rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday, March 14. The speaker will be Jim Bryne of Hills.
 
Hospice Charity Dinner and Auction tickets now on sale
Tickets are now on sale for the 2019 Hospice Charity Dinner and Auction on Saturday, April 13, at Grand Prairie Events in Luverne. Tickets may be purchased at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Office at 304 North McKenzie Street in Luverne. Tickets may also be purchased by calling 507-283-1805. Open seating tickets are $55, and sponsor tables for eight are $600.
 
Hospice Auction items due March 15

Luverne High School band, choir concert March 16
Luverne High School band and choirs will present their March concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in the high school gym, following their work with expert clinicians.
The band will be under the direction of John Aboud, Algona, Iowa and the choirs will be directed by Dr. Michael Culloton from Concordia College, Moorhead. There is no admission fee for this concert.
 
St. Patrick’s Day Parade March 18
Luverne Area Chamber will sponsor a St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 18, starting at the Living Rock Church parking lot on East Main Street. No preregistration is required; show up in green and be ready to have fun. Cash prizes awarded. Call the Chamber, 507-283-4061.
 
Free food giveaway March  21
New Life Celebration Church will offer free produce, bread and meat from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the Senior Citizens Building at 319 East Lincoln Street in Luverne for those having trouble putting food on the table. Bring your own bags and boxes. Call 507-283-3466.
 
 ‘Plaster Tracking’ March 22 at state park
Learn about the tracks and trails at the Blue Mounds State Park this winter and make a plaster track to take home at “Plaster Tracking” from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, at the Cart-in Site Picnic Shelter. You'll learn how to identify coyotes, rabbits, and other little critters in the park. Call 507-283-6061 with questions.
 
Free tax help available at library
Volunteers through AARP will provide free tax services at the Rock County Community Library in Luverne starting Feb. 11. Call the library, 449-5040, to make an appointment. Appointments are required. Evening appointments are also available.
The service is free through April 15 for any private individual with a simple tax format. It’s not for commercial, farming or investment taxes.
 
New to Medicare classes available
Anyone soon becoming Medicare-eligible is encouraged to attend two classes offered by Senior LinkAge Line in Slayton the second and third Mondays of the month at the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging, 1939 Engebretson Ave., Slayton. Participants learn the basics of Medicare and coverage options during the first class. The second class focuses on research options. Call the Senior LinkAge Line, 1-800-333-2433, to register.
 
Prarie Rose grants and scholarships available

Register for summer K-12 T-ball, Baseball, Softball by March 29. After that the fee will be $50 higher and registrations are accepted only if there are openings. 
Hand Building Clay Class for grades 5 through adult will teach pinch, coil and slab instruction methods. Fee is $27, plus $10 material fee for the two-session class. Choose either March 9 and 16 or April 6 and 13.
A six-session Yoga class begins on March 11. Fee is $48.
