Rock County spring weight restrictions in effect
Spring weight road restrictions are in place on Rock County roadways.
Because of the unpredictability of how weather affects roadway strength, restrictions will remain in place until further notice. Call Rock County Highway Engineer Mark Sehr at 507-283-5010 with questions.
 
Service projects needed for youth mission week
Rock The Edge: Rock County’s Christian Youth in Action “Service Over Self” mission week will be from June 3-7. Their purpose is to assist individuals and/or organizations with projects around the county. If you have a project or would like to be an adult volunteer, call 507-283-9664.
 
Kindergarten Round-up March 28
Luverne Kindergarten Round-Up will be Thursday, March 28, at the Luverne Elementary School. Session 1 for new kindergarten parents is at 5:30 p.m. Session 2, an informal “meet & greet” is from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Children must be 5 years old before Sept. 1, 2019, in order to register for kindergarten. Love the Ladies Expo set for March 30
Luverne’s third annual Love the Ladies Expo will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Grand Prairie Events in Luverne. Women and men of all ages are welcome. $1,000 in cash and prizes will be given away. Title sponsor Sanford Health Luverne will serve a brunch from 10 a.m. until gone. More than 40 businesses will have displays, and several free seminars will be offered. No admission charge — free parking.
 
First Assembly of God to show “Passion” Sunday, March 31
The Luverne First Assembly of God Church invites the public to the free movie “Passion,” the passion of Christ, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, March 31, at the church located west on County Road 4 and north on 110th Street.
 
Grief Support meetings begin April 1
Sanford Luverne Hospice will begin a grief support group Mondays starting April 1 for five consecutive Mondays from 5-6:30 p.m. at Sanford Luverne Medical Center. Meetings are free and confidential. Call 507-283-1805 to register.
 
Generations dessert theater Monday, April 1
The Generations Building Fundraiser (formerly Luverne Senior Citizens) will be Monday, April 1, at Grand Prairie Events. Seating and desserts will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a program of music, comedy and live dessert auction beginning at 7 p.m. Cost is $20 for general public and $15 for Generations members.
 
Ohman presents program April 8 at library
Doug Ohman with Pioneer Photography will speak about his pictures, widely published in magazines, calendars and books, at 3 p.m. Monday, April 8, at the Rock County Library. He will focus on state parks of Minnesota.
The program is funded by the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund, is free and open to the public.
 
Free tax help available at library
Volunteers through AARP will provide free tax services at the Rock County Community Library in Luverne starting Feb. 11. Call the library, 449-5040, to make an appointment. Appointments are required. Evening appointments are also available.
The service is free through April 15 for any private individual with a simple tax format. It’s not for commercial, farming or investment taxes.
 
Hospice Charity Dinner and Auction tickets now on sale
Tickets are now on sale for the 2019 Hospice Charity Dinner and Auction on Saturday, April 13, at Grand Prairie Events in Luverne. Tickets may be purchased at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Office at 304 North McKenzie Street in Luverne. Tickets may also be purchased by calling 507-283-1805. Open seating tickets are $55, and sponsor tables for eight are $600.
 
New to Medicare classes available
Anyone soon becoming Medicare-eligible is encouraged to attend two classes offered by Senior LinkAge Line in Slayton the second and third Mondays of the month at the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging, 1939 Engebretson Ave., Slayton. Participants learn the basics of Medicare and coverage options during the first class. The second class focuses on research options. Call the Senior LinkAge Line, 1-800-333-2433, to register.

Last week for students in grades K-12 to register for summer T-ball, minor league baseball or softball, major league baseball, grades 4-8 traveling softball, grade 7-8 baseball, Jr. Legion (formerl VFW) and Legion ball. March 29 is the last day registrations will be taken at Community Education. Beginning April 1, registrations will be accepted only if there are open spots with an additional $50 fee.
Hand Building Clay Class for grades 5 through adult will teach pinch, coil and slab instruction methods. Fee is $27, plus $10 material fee for the two-session class April 6 and 13.
The 4-hour Defensive Driving Refresher Class will be offered for adults 55 years of age and older on March 28 or April 29.  Fee is $20 prepaid.
Students grades 4-5, learn basic programming at Ozobots Unleashed on April 1.  Fee is $10.
Indoor Playtime on April 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Catherine gym gives children birth to 5 years and a parent a large space to run off some energy!   Come enjoy all kinds of activities with your friends.  Registration requested for this free activity.
Children ages 3-5 years with a parent will have fun Building a Bird House on April 11.  Fee is $15 and includes all materials.

Library hours are Monday-Thursday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
