Meetings
Blue Mound Cemetery Association will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, March 18, at the Dick and Dolly Remme home.
MS Support Group will meet at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the Pizza Ranch, Luverne. All persons with MS and their friends and family are welcome. 507-283-2069.
Luverne Music Boosters will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, in the Luverne High School choir room. All parents of band and choir students are encouraged to attend.
Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 21, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne.
Hardwick Goal Seekers meet every Monday in Hardwick City Hall for the purpose of support and encouragement for weight loss journeys. Weigh-in begins at 6 p.m., and the meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Call Glenda, 449-0568, with questions.

Rock County spring weight restrictions effective March 15
Spring weight road restrictions will be in place at 12:01 a.m. Friday, March 15, on Rock County roadways.
Because of the unpredictability of how weather affects roadway strength, restrictions will remain in place until further notice. Call Rock County Highway Engineer Mark Sehr at 507-283-5010 with questions.
 
Blood drive set for March 15
The Community Blood Bank will host a blood drive in Luverne from 7 to 10:30 a.m. and from noon to 3 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Sanford Luverne. Call Sanford Luverne, 507-449-1209, with questions. Or visit www.cbblifeblood.org.
 
March Mayhem Charity Basketball March 18
Luverne High School Student Council will sponsor the fourth annual Charity Basketball Games at 7 p.m. Monday, March 18, in the high school gym. Student basketball players take on the teacher team, and boys’ hockey players challenge Luverne Fire Department members. Proceeds benefit the Luverne Schools Angel Fund, which helps pay lunch account balances for families in need.
 
Hospice Charity Dinner and Auction tickets now on sale
Tickets are now on sale for the 2019 Hospice Charity Dinner and Auction on Saturday, April 13, at Grand Prairie Events in Luverne. Tickets may be purchased at the Sanford Luverne Hospice Office at 304 North McKenzie Street in Luverne. Tickets may also be purchased by calling 507-283-1805. Open seating tickets are $55, and sponsor tables for eight are $600.
 
Hospice Auction items due March 15
All donations including advertising, gift baskets, certificates, merchandise and packages for the Live Auction are due at the Sanford Luverne Hospice office by March 15. Call Helen at 283-1805 or email helen.saum@sanfordhealth.org with questions.
 
Luverne High School band, choir concert March 16
Luverne High School band and choirs will present their March concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 16, in the high school gym, following their work with expert clinicians.
The band will be under the direction of John Aboud, Algona, Iowa and the choirs will be directed by Dr. Michael Culloton from Concordia College, Moorhead. There is no admission fee for this concert.
 
St. Patrick’s Day Parade March 18
Luverne Area Chamber will sponsor a St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 4:30 p.m. Monday, March 18, starting at the Living Rock Church parking lot on East Main Street. No preregistration is required; show up in green and be ready to have fun. Cash prizes awarded. Call the Chamber, 507-283-4061.
 
Free food giveaway March  21
New Life Celebration Church will offer free produce, bread and meat from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 21, in the Senior Citizens Building at 319 East Lincoln Street in Luverne for those having trouble putting food on the table. Bring your own bags and boxes. Call 507-283-3466.
 
Service projects needed for youth mission week
Rock The Edge: Rock County’s Christian Youth in Action “Service Over Self” mission week will be from June 3-7. Their purpose is to assist individuals and/or organizations with projects around the county. If you have a project or would like to be an adult volunteer, call 507-283-9664.
 
‘Plaster Tracking’ March 22 at state park
Learn about the tracks and trails at the Blue Mounds State Park this winter and make a plaster track to take home at “Plaster Tracking” from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, March 22, at the Cart-in Site Picnic Shelter. You'll learn how to identify coyotes, rabbits, and other little critters in the park. Call 507-283-6061 with questions.
 
Kindergarten Round-up March 28
Luverne Kindergarten Round-Up will be Thursday, March 28, at the Luverne Elementary School. Session 1 for new kindergarten parents is at 5:30 p.m. Session 2, an informal “meet & greet” is from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Children must be 5 years old before Sept. 1, 2019, in order to register for kindergarten. Free tax help available at library
Volunteers through AARP will provide free tax services at the Rock County Community Library in Luverne starting Feb. 11. Call the library, 449-5040, to make an appointment. Appointments are required. Evening appointments are also available.
The service is free through April 15 for any private individual with a simple tax format. It’s not for commercial, farming or investment taxes.
 
New to Medicare classes available
Anyone soon becoming Medicare-eligible is encouraged to attend two classes offered by Senior LinkAge Line in Slayton the second and third Mondays of the month at the Minnesota River Area Agency on Aging, 1939 Engebretson Ave., Slayton. Participants learn the basics of Medicare and coverage options during the first class. The second class focuses on research options. Call the Senior LinkAge Line, 1-800-333-2433, to register.
 
Prairie Rose grants and scholarships available

Register for summer K-12 T-ball, Baseball, Softball by March 29. After that the fee will be $50 higher and registrations are accepted only if there are openings. 
Hand Building Clay Class for grades 5 through adult will teach pinch, coil and slab instruction methods. Fee is $27, plus $10 material fee for the two-session class April 6 and 13.
Students in grade 4-5 can Sew Electric Bookmark Lights with conductive thread, LEDs, batteries and fabric on March 18. Fee is $10.
