Meetings
Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 18, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne. Call Dianne at 507-530-3307 with questions.
Town and Country  Garden Club will meet at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at the Ida Reverts Memorial Hall on the Rock County Fairgrounds. Program topic will be “Why did the Judge choose that one?” Lunch will be at the home of Linda McGinty after the meeting.
Rock County homeschool group will meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 30, in the Rock County Library for “Homeschooling for High School.” Call Katie Overvaag, 605-838-1501.
Hardwick Goal Seekers meet every Monday in Hardwick City Hall for the purpose of support and encouragement for weight loss journeys. Weigh-in begins at 6 p.m., and the meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. Call Glenda, 449-0568, with questions.
Women’s Alcoholics Anonymous meets at 8 p.m. Mondays in the United Methodist Church.

Kanaranzi Creek bridge closed
The Rock County Highway 1 (41st Street) bridge over Kanaranzi Creek is closed for structure repairs. The bridge is located 1/2 mile west of the Rock/Nobles county line on the highway to Ellsworth. Repairs are estimated to take 1-2 weeks. Call Rock County Highway Engineer Mark Sehr at 507-283-5010 with questions.

Sign up for soccer league, coaches needed
Soccer league for ages 4 through grade 4 (end of 2019 school year) begins Aug. 6 on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Call Michelle Dekam at 227-6125 if you can coach. Training will be provided.
 
Free food July 18
New Life Celebration Church will offer free produce, bread and meat from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in the Generations building (former Senior Center) on East Lincoln Street for those having trouble putting food on the table. Bring your own bags and boxes. Call 283-4366.
 
Splish Splash Summer Bash at plaza July 18
The summer Thursday Night Plaza series continues with Splish Splash Summer Bash from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18, in the History Center parking lot on East Main Street in Luverne. Supper will be available served by Sterling’s Café and Grille, and there will be free water games and activities for all ages, sponsored by local businesses.
 
Register for defensive driving class
Save money on your car insurance premium if you are 55 or older by taking the 8-hour defensive driving class Aug. 13 and Aug. 20 through Luverne Community Education. Classes will be four hours each evening. Cost is $25. Register by calling 507-283-4724. (The office will be closed from July 19 through Aug. 9.)
 
Red Cross blood drive July 29
The American Red Cross is facing a blood shortage and has issued an emergency call for donations. They will host a blood drive at Grace Lutheran Church in Luverne from 1-7 p.m. Monday, July 29.
Donors can make an appointment by using the Blood Donor App, going to RedCrossBlood.org or by calling 1-800-733-2767. Completing a RapidPass online health history questionnaire can reduce the time it takes to donate.
Donors are reminded to bring along identification.
 
Register for AG Tech Day Aug. 14
At AG Tech Day Aug. 14 at Grand Prairie Events, participants will have access to experts skilled in better use of high speed broadband. Speaker Chip Flory, market analyst/AgriTalk radio host, and other experts will share technology resources.
A free lunch will be served, compliments of Rock County Pork Producers, Corn and Soybean Growers, Cattlemen, and Dairy Producers. Register online at www.isd2184.net under the Community Education link. (The Community Education office will be closed from July 19 through Aug. 9.)
The event is made possible through the Rock County Blandin Broadband Grant.
 
Discovery Time has openings for fall
Openings in the Discovery Time Preschool are available for 3-4-year-olds in the MWF morning class and the T/Th afternoon class. Children who are 3 by Sept. 1, 2019, are eligible, and schohlarships are available if income guidelines can be met. Call Luverne Community Education at 507-283-4724 for more details. (Note: The office will be closed from July 19-Aug. 9.)
 
Free Medicare classes
Free classes for people who are new to Medicare are offered the second and third Mondays every month at the Minnesota River Area on Aging, 1939 Engebretson Ave., Slayton.
In the first class, participants will learn basics of Medicare and their options. The second class teaches how to research these options using non-biased tools, such as the Medicare website and Medicare Plan Finder Tool.

Exquisite Corpse Painting, the surrealist drawing game that pairs artists who each do half of a drawing, will be July 30. Fee $15. 
Human Board Game Fun Adventure Day Camp is Aug. 2 for grades completed 1 – 4. Fee is $15.
Suzuki Violin and Cello Lessons week of Aug. 5 for ages 4 to 10 and parent or adult. Fee is $85.
Guys and Dolls Guthrie Theatre bus trip is Aug. 24. Fee is $113.
Pottery Wheel Throwing for grades 9 through adult starts Aug. 5. Fee is $40 plus $10 for materials.
Art Camp for completed grades 4 through 6 will be Aug. 6, 7, 8. Fee is $25.
Little School House on the Prairie for completed grades 3 through adult is Aug. 12. Fee is $10 per person or $16 per adult-child pair.
