Generations offers afternoon activities
Generations will now be open from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday afternoons with activities and refreshments.
Planned for Tueday, Jan. 21, is a presentation by Mary Petersen about wigs, and Thursday, Jan. 23, is the game Fast Track with Roger and Vikki Henderson.
Generations encourages people to come and socialize and enjoy other games as well.
 
Senior Nutrition Assistance Program Jan. 16
The Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors 60 and older, sponsored by A.C.E. of SW MN, will be from 3-4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at Generations. Call Linda at 283-5064 with questions.
 
Free food giveaway Jan. 16
New Life Celebration Church will offer free produce, bread and meat from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Generations building at 319 East Lincoln Street in Luverne for those having trouble putting food on the table. Bring your own bags and boxes. Call 507-283-4366.
 
Figure skating classic this weekend
The Blue Mound Ice Arena will host the 2020 Ice Crystal Classic Friday through Sunday, Jan. 17-19.
More than 100 skaters representing nine different rinks are expected to be on hand for the event.
The Friday evening skating times are from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Saturday skating begins at 8 a.m. and continues until 6:30 p.m., and Sunday times are from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The eleventh annual event is open and free to the public.
 
Red Cross hosts area blood drives
The American Red Cross will host two area blood drives in January:
•Adrian: Adrian High School from 1-7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22.
•Luverne: Grace Lutheran Church from 1-7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20.
The Red Cross has a critical need for blood donors of all blood types, especially type O.

Compassionate Friends open meeting Jan. 20
The first meeting of Compassionate Friends will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 20, in the Coffey Contemporary Arts building on Main Street, Luverne. Especially invited are those family members who have dealt with the loss of a child or grandchild. (Teenage siblings or older are also welcome.)

Free meal at UMC
A free meal open to the public will be served at the United Methodist Church in Luverne at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22. Call the church at 507-283-4529 with questions.
 
Human trafficking awareness event Jan. 26
The Southwest Crisis Center will host Danielle Freitag from Action 169, a survivor-led faith-based organization, to speak on human trafficking in southwest Minnesota. The event is from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 26, in the American Reformed Church, Luverne. The event is free and open to the public. Contact Jennifer@mnswcc.org for details.
 
Dental health clinic Feb. 5
A dental health clinic for ages 0-26 will be at Rock County Health and Human Services at 2 Roundwind Road in Luverne on Tuesday, Feb. 5. Call 612-746-1530 to schedule an appointment, or stop at Rock County Health and Human Services for assistance in scheduling. Exams, X-rays, cleanings and more will be provided. All forms of insurance are accepted.

Luverne School students in grade 8 and older may register now for the Feb. 3 Student Driver Education class. The fee is $335. If openings remain in the class on Jan. 27, out-of-district students may register.
Defensive Driving refresher classes will be Jan. 27, March 26 and March 30.
Defensive Driving first-time class, an 8-hour class, will be offered in two sessions, April 20 and 27, four hours each evening.
Think summer! Students in grades K-12 sign up by March 27 for Summer Comm Ed softball, baseball, T-ball teams.  After March 27, registrations will be accepted only if there are openings, and a late fee of $50 will be applied.
Join the ECFE classes – a time for parents to create memories with their children ages 0-5. Staff prepare fun activities for children to do in the preschool rooms and present educational/ developmental information for parents.   
Yoga class is at 6 p.m. Jan. 27, Feb. 3, 10, 24, March 2. Cost is $49.
Pickleball has made it to Luverne!  Learn the Game on Jan. 25 for $5 fee.  Play the Game during the week – Mon/Wed/Fri mornings and/or Thursday evenings.  Fee is $20 for four months of play.
Pizza Pizza, Pizza on Jan. 27 is for kids in grades 1-5 who want to learn how to make a pizza from the pros.  Class will be held at Pizza Ranch.  Fee of $15 covers pizza, pop, and an apron to take home.
Grades 5-6 Invitational Basketball Tournament will be Saturday, Jan. 25. Registration of girls’ and boys’ teams is now open. Forms are online on the Luverne Schools website under Community Ed current events.
