Blue Mound Quilters will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 4, at the Luverne Senior Center. Members are to bring fabric for pillow cases for teen boys and 11 exchange blocks. Plans will be made for the quilt show.
Lady Luverne Red Hats will meet at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at the Luverne Senior Dining Center for lunch. Members are asked to bring a Red Hat item for a rummage sale. RSVP by Wednesday, Jan. 6, to Luverne Senior Dining at 283-9846.

Bank Nite movie ‘Minions’ at Palace Jan. 7
The free Bank Nite movie, “Minions,” will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 7, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.
Sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants National Bank and Papik Motors, a free, family-friendly movie is shown on the first Thursday of every month as it was done for “Bank Nite” in the 1930s. A cash prize drawing will follow the movie. Must be present to win.
 
No book donations to library
Due to the lack of space while the Rock County Library undergoes renovation, the Friends of the Library request that all book donations be held until the remodeling work is complete.
 
Luverne hosts fifth/sixth-grade basketball tourney
Luverne Community Education will sponsor an invitational basketball tournament for grades 5-6 boys’ and girls’ basketball teams Saturday, Jan. 30. Each team will play at least two games in pool play format. Entry fee is $100 per team. Register online at www.isd2184.net under Community Education, or call 507-2833-4724.

New residents — census information needed for preschool children: If you are new to the community, please call Community Education at 283-4724 with your family information for all children ages 0 up to kindergarten. The school district uses the information for planning purposes, mailing out flyers regarding school events, including the state-mandated preschool screening for all 3-year-old children living in Minnesota. If your child is 4 years old and has not been screened, please call 283-4724.  The screening should be completed prior to kindergarten.
Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom: Families, daycares, and visitors are invited to play and learn in the Outdoor Classroom located on the southwest side of the Luverne school. This classroom is designed for preschoolers to learn by discovery and exploration.  Enter under the arch on the path of engraved pavers.  Additional pavers will be added each spring.  For ordering information, call 283-4724. Times can be reserved for field trips to the classroom also.
Preschool Classes for ages 3 – 5 Years: Half day Preschool classes are offered during the school year for children who are 3 years of age up to kindergarten age. Enrollments are accepted throughout the school year. Age is determined as of Sept. 1 of present school year. Free or reduced rates are available if income guidelines are met. Com Ed seeks class ideas and instructors: Luverne Community Education prints a brochure of activities and classes three times each year.  They are mailed out as an insert to the Luverne Announcer in September, January, and May.   Do you have suggestions for new classes?  What do you want to learn how to do?  What topics would you like to learn more about?  Do you know of someone who would be willing to share their knowledge or craft with others?  Suggestions are always welcome.  Contact Community Education at 283-4724..
