Meetings

Luverne Township Board meets at 9 a.m. the second Wednesday of every month in the Rock County Community Library.
Mound Township Board meets at 7:30 p.m. the second Monday each month at the Rock County Highway Building, Luverne.
 
Carnegie extends holiday hours
The Carnegie Cultural Center is hosting its annual Festival of Trees on North Freeman Avenue and will be open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday until Christmas.
 
Hinkly House open Thursday, Dec. 17
The Hinkly House will be open to the public from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, to showcase Carol Ceynowa’s needle felted animal display.
 
Rock County Children’s Fair Thursday, Dec. 17
All Rock County children ages 0-6 are invited with their families to the Rock County Children’s Fair from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Luverne Elementary School commons. A special visit with Santa and Mrs. Claus will highlight the interactive children’s activities. Admission is free. Call 283-4724 with questions.
 
Winter band concert at Luverne High School Dec. 17
Luverne Middle School and High School students will perform their winter band concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, in the high school gym. Admission is a non-perishable food item or cash donation to the local food shelf.
 
Food ministry Dec. 17
The monthly food ministry, sponsored by New Life Celebration Church, will be from 5 to 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17, at the Luverne Senior Center for those having trouble putting food on the table. Come for fresh produce, bread and meat. Children will be asked to wait outside.
 
Emily Lodine to sing at Holy Trinity Christmas Concert Dec. 17
Holy Trinity Church invites the public to a Christmas concert starring Emily Lodine Overgaard at 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17. Refreshments will be served at Hilger Commons after the concert.
 
Free Christmas Eve meal at United Methodist Church
A free community Christmas Eve meal will be served at 7 p.m. Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, at the United Methodist Church in Luverne.
 
Caregivers Support Group meets Dec. 29
The Caregivers Support Group will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 29, in the conference room at Mary Jane Brown Good Samaritan Society. A video relating to caregiving and dementia will be shown. Anyone dealing with caregiving and the available resources is encouraged to attend.
 
Luverne hosts fifth/sixth-grade basketball tourney
Luverne Community Education will sponsor an invitational basketball tournament for grades 5-6 boys’ and girls’ basketball teams Saturday, Jan. 30. Each team will play at least two games in pool play format. Entry fee is $100 per team. Register online at www.isd2184.net under Community Education, or call 507-2833-4724.

New residents — census information needed for preschool children: If you are new to the community, please call Community Education at 283-4724 with your family information for all children ages 0 up to kindergarten. The school district uses the information for planning purposes, mailing out flyers regarding school events, including the state-mandated preschool screening for all 3-year-old children living in Minnesota. If your child is 4 years old and has not been screened, please call 283-4724.  The screening should be completed prior to kindergarten.
Nature Explore Outdoor Classroom: Families, daycares, and visitors are invited to play and learn in the Outdoor Classroom located on the southwest side of the Luverne school. This classroom is designed for preschoolers to learn by discovery and exploration.  Enter under the arch on the path of engraved pavers.  Additional pavers will be added each spring.  For ordering information, call 283-4724. Times can be reserved for field trips to the classroom also.
