Township meetings
Beaver Creek Township Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, in the township hall.
Vienna Township Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, in the Kenneth Community Center.
 
Luverne student registration appointments
New families in the Luverne School District are encouraged to register children for the 2020-21 school year. Call the high school at 507-283-4491 to set up an appointment. The District office is open; the elementary office can be reached at 507-283-4497.
 
Hospice online fundraiser coming in August
Sanford Luverne Hospice is moving its annual Charity Dinner and Live Auction fundraiser to an online auction due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The public will be able to bid online using a cellphone or computer on an amazing variety of donated items to support the hospice mission. Watch for upcoming information and bid dates coming in August.
 
Children’s dental clinic Aug. 11
Tuesday, Aug. 11, is the next clinic providing dental care for children ages 0-26, at Rock County Health and Human Services. Call 612-746-1530 or stop by Rock County Health and Human Services to schedule. Exams, X-rays, cleanings and more will be provided. All forms of insurance are accepted. Organized by #Luv1LuvAll's Rock County Oral Health Task Force.
 
Steen Reformed Carnival and Car Show Aug. 12
Wednesday, Aug. 12, from 5:30-8 p.m. the Steen Reformed Church will be having a carnival and car show. Open to all vehicles. There will be a freewill offering for a meal and carnival games. Evening of fun, food and fellowship!
 
Senior food distribution set for Aug. 20
A.C.E. of SW Mn-Rock Co. will offer its Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS) age 60 and older, from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in the parking lot at 319 E. Lincoln in Luverne.

New Life Celebration food distribution canceled for Aug. 20
Monthly food giveaways at Generations on Aug. 20 are canceled due to low numbers of recipients. Call 507-283-4366 or 402-981-5019 with questions.
 
Drive-thru Relay For Life Aug. 20
A drive-through Rock County Relay for Life will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Luverne City Park with a drive-up meal, radio broadcast entertainment and a message from Yvette Van Der Brink, Relay for Life Honorary Chairperson. 
Poster boards (instead of luminary bags) are available for a freewill donation at Salon 75 or First Farmers & Merchants Bank, or people can make their own posters with tag board.
A virtual 5K can be run or walked anytime Aug. 20-23. Register and get a T-shirt at luvprintexpress.com/relay5k. Survivor names can be sent to luvrockrelay@gmail.com to be put on luminary bags.
 
History Center open with limited hours
The Rock County History Center is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday starting June 2. Some safety precautions — with masks and gloves available — will be in place to protect against the spread of coronavirus. The phone number is 507-283-2122.
 
Community Education
The Community Education phone number is 507-283-4724. Use the waiver/registration form from the website to register for all classes.  The office is closed on Fridays during the summer. 
Upcoming classes are:
 Cliffline Climbing for Grades 4-12 taught by Roca Climbing and Friends of Blue Mound State Park will be Sept. 12  (morning or afternoon session). No charge, but registration required.
 Science Fun for Everyone (morning day camp) on Aug. 14. Meet at Extension Office on Blue Mound Avenue for Grades 1-4 as attended during the 2019-20 school year.  Fee is $15.
 Defensive Driving Class 4 Refresher Defensive Driving Class on Aug. 18.
 Defensive Driving Class 8 Hour Defensive Driving Class on Aug. 24 & 31.  This is the first class you take to get your insurance discount.  After this class, you will take a refresher class every three years to keep your discount in effect.
Punt Pass & Kick Competition on Aug. 19 for girls and boys who attended grades 3-8 during the 19-20 school year.  Fee is $10.
