Luverne student registration appointments
New families in the Luverne School District are encouraged to register children for the 2020-21 school year. Call the high school at 507-283-4491 to set up an appointment. The District office is open; the elementary office can be reached at 507-283-4497.
 
Free pick-your-own pears at Prairie Ally
The one well-established pear tree at the Prairie Ally food forest in Luverne is covered in hundreds of pounds of pears. Community members are encouraged to harvest them at the food plot on North Blue Mound Avenue. Thoroughly wash hands at handwashing station in parking lot before harvesting.  Fruit picking tools and a ladder are available on site. 
 
 
Hospice online fundraiser coming in August
Sanford Luverne Hospice is moving its annual Charity Dinner and Live Auction fundraiser to an online auction due to COVID-19 restrictions.
The public will be able to bid online using a cellphone or computer on an amazing variety of donated items to support the hospice mission. Watch for upcoming information and bid dates coming in August.
 
Senior food distribution set for Aug. 20
A.C.E. of SW Mn-Rock Co. will offer its Nutrition Assistance Program for Seniors (NAPS) age 60 and older, from 2 to 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, in the parking lot at 319 E. Lincoln in Luverne.

New Life Celebration food distribution canceled for Aug. 20
Monthly food giveaways at Generations on Aug. 20 are canceled due to low numbers of recipients. Call 507-283-4366 or 402-981-5019 with questions.
 
Drive-thru Relay For Life Aug. 20
A drive-through Rock County Relay for Life will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, at the Luverne City Park with a drive-up meal, radio broadcast entertainment and a message from Yvette VanDerBrink, Relay for Life Honorary Chairperson. 
Poster boards (instead of luminary bags) are available for a freewill donation at Salon 75 or First Farmers & Merchants Bank, or people can make their own posters with tag board.
A virtual 5K can be run or walked anytime Aug. 20-23. Register and get a T-shirt at luvprintexpress.com/relay5k. Survivor names can be sent to luvrockrelay@gmail.com to be put on luminary bags.
 
Free Community Meal
The United Methodist Church in Luverne is offering a free community meal at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26. Social distancing will be practiced in the Fellowship Hall and a pick-up option is also available. Delivery options are no longer available so please make arrangements for your meal to be picked up. If you are not able to find someone you may call the church office 283-4529 and arrangements will try to be made.
 
History Center open with limited hours
The Rock County History Center is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday starting June 2. Some safety precautions — with masks and gloves available — will be in place to protect against the spread of coronavirus. The phone number is 507-283-2122.
