Blue Mound Quilters will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, May 2, in the library basement for election of officers. Dianne Karlstad will give a program on self-binding a baby blanket. All quilters are welcome.
Springwater Township Board will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, in the home of clerk Teresa Kramer.

Mound Township Board meets at 7:30 p.m. the second Monday each month at the Rock County Highway Building, Luverne.

Afternoon Escape at Palace Theatre April 28
Thanks to sponsors Pizza Ranch and Hartquist Funeral Home, the Palace Theatre in Luverne will show “Spotlight,” the true story of how the Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese. The movie begins at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 28. Admission is $5.
 
City to flush fire hydrants May 2-6
The City of Luverne Water Department will flush fire hydrants from Monday, May 2, through Friday, May 6. Residents should check for signs of discoloration before using water. If discoloration appears, run tap water until clear.
Relay for Life caregiver nominations and team registrations due May 1
The Rock County Relay for Life Committee will accept team registrations until May 1 for the June 10 Relay for Life at the Luverne City Park. Community members are also encouraged to nominate a caregiver to be honored at Relay for Life. Nomination forms are available at Merecie Domagala’s office at American Family Insurance on West Main Street or mdomagal@amfam.com. Nominations are due by May 1. Call 507-734-2174 with questions.
 
Ecumenical breakfast May 4
First Presbyterian Church of Luverne will host an ecumenical breakfast at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 4. All area women are invited. Speaker will be Deb Rieck on “Proof of Romans 8:28.”
 
Bank Nite movie ‘Inside Out’ at Palace May 5
The free Bank Nite movie, Disney Pixar’s “Inside Out,” rated PG, will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.
Sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants National Bank and Papik Motors, a free, family-friendly movie is shown on the first Thursday of every month as it was done for “Bank Nite” in the 1930s. A cash prize drawing will follow the movie. Must be present to win.
 
 ‘DNA Geneology 101’ offered May 5
Greg Gropel, a member of the Ostfriesland Geneology Society of America, will offer “DNA Geneology 101” at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 5, in the Luverne Community Ed classroom, CE802. Gropel will share his findings about DNA basics on types of tests, names of testing companies, cost factors and how DNA can be used to determine ethnicity, ancestors migration patterns and to discover lost cousins. Sign up for bus trip to Guthrie Theater for “South Pacific”
Luverne Community Education is offering a trip to the Guthrie Theater Sunday, June 26, to see the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, “South Pacific.” Cost of $85 covers bus ride and theater ticket. For more details or to register, call 283-4724.
 
Luverne Optimist sandbox fill
The Luverne Optimist Club will be sponsoring a youth sandbox fill Monday, May 16. Sand is donated by W&N Construction. For a sandbox fill, contact Audrey at 507-283-2018. Deliveries start at 6 p.m.
 
Library offers Story Hour and Laptime
Story hour for ages 4-5 continues through May 5 every Thursday morning from 10-11 a.m. Story Hour includes stories, songs, crafts and more.
Laptime for ages birth through 3 with an adult continues through May 6. It meets every Friday from 10:30-11 a.m. Laptime includes stories, songs, crafts and more.
