Rock County spring road restrictions are in effect

Spring weight road restrictions are in place as of Tuesday, March 6, on all Rock County roadways.

Redemption Riders pancake breakfast March 11

Christian Motorcyclists Association “Redemption Riders” will serve a pancake breakfast from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, March 11, at the United Methodist Church, Luverne. Donations will be accepted for CMA’s “Run for the Son” ministry.

 

March Madness benefits Boltjes

The Luverne High School student council will host a “March Madness” night Monday, March 12, in the high school gymnasium.

LHS juniors will play the seniors at 7 p.m. followed by a game between the LHS staff and the basketball teams. During each game’s halftime, a lightning tournament between the participants of the various winter activities will take place.

Cost for the event is $2. All money raised will be donated to Sharon Boltjes, a district paraprofessional currently undergoing cancer treatments.

 

Community Blood Bank hosts drive March 12 in Adrian

The Community Blood Bank will host a blood drive from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and from 3-6 p.m. Monday, March 12, at the Adrian Ambulance Garage (main street in Adrian). Hospice Dinner and Auction tickets on sale now

Tickets are now on sale for the Sanford Luverne Hospice Dinner and Auction April 21 at Grand Prairie Events in Luverne. The event includes a plated dinner catered by The Bluestem, raffles, and silent and live auctions.

Tickets may be purchased in person at the Hospice Office in the Lvuerne City Office building (use City Office entrance on Luverne Street) or call the Hospice office at 507-283-1805 to purchase tickets using a credit card.

 

Free food March 15

New Life Celebration Church will offer free food — fresh produce, bread and meat — from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, March 15, at the Luverne Senior Center for those having trouble putting food on the table. Bring your own bags or boxes. Call  283-4366 with questions.

 

St. Patrick’s Day and celebration March 17

Luverne’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade will be at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, March 17, starting at the Living Rock Church parking lot on East Main Street and ending at the Palace Theatre. All businesses, families and individuals are invited to participate. Regisration isn’t necessary; just meet in the  lot between  4 and 4:30 p.m. Four $25 cash prizes will be awarded in both youth (18 and youger) and adult categories.

Celebrations are planned at the Eagles Club with Reuben sandwiches from 11:30 a.m. until gone, a block party at Take 16 Brewing Company from 4 to 10 p.m. and food and drink specials at The Bluestem and Sterling’s.

 

Green Earth performs ‘KOLD Radio’ at Palace

The Green Earth Players will perform “KOLD Radio — Whitefish Bay” March 16-18 and March 23-25 at the historic Palace Theatre in Luverne.

Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday both weekends.

Register for 8-hour defensive driving class

Luverne Community Education will offer the full 8-hour defensive driving class in two 4-hour evening sessions from 5:30-9:30 p.m. March 19 and March 26 for anyone 55 years of age or older who wants to qualify for a 10-percent car insurance premium discount. After attending both evenings, you will receive a certificate to present to your insurance company for an insurance discount for the next three years.
