Candlelight vigil at dusk May 28
A candlelight vigil in honor of veterans and their sacrifice and service will be at dusk Sunday, May 28, at the Rock County Veterans Memorial on the courthouse square in Luverne. Bring your own chair.
In case of rain, the event will move across the street to St. Catherine Catholic Church.
A reception will follow at the Herreid Military Museum.
Hardwick Memorial Day Program May 29
The Hardwick Memorial Day Program will be at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, at the Veterans Memorial. Rain location is the Hardwick American Legion Hall.
Guest speaker will be Airman First Class Adam Fodness, South Dakota Air National Guard, with readings by Knute and Gunnar Oldre and special music by Madilyn Oye. The event is sponsored by the Hardwick American Legion Post #478.
Luverne Memorial Day program May 29
American Legion Post #123 and Rock County VFW Post #2757 will sponsor the 2017 Memorial Day Service at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Guest speaker will be Dylan Thorson, a senior member of the Luverne speech team. The Luverne High School band will provide the music.
A noon potluck dinner will be at the Luverne post hall.
Program at Veterans Home Tuesday, May 30
The Luverne Minnesota Veterans Home Memorial Day program will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, in the dining hall.
Keynote speaker will be Rep. Joe Schomacker (R-Luverne). Musical selections will be provided by the Veterans Home choir.
Walking Military Memorial downtown
Beginning Memorial Day weekend, more than 40 Luverne businesses will participate in a Walking Military Memorial on Main Street. The displays, presented by Remember Rally, include photos, banners, information and uniforms, as a way to thank all our military. The displays will remain until fall.

The free Bank Nite movie, “Rock Dog,” rated PG, will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 1, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.
Sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants National Bank and Papik Motors, a free, family-friendly movie is shown on the first Thursday of every month as it was done for “Bank Nite” in the 1930s. A cash prize drawing will follow the movie. Must be present to win.

The fifth annual Men’s Community Prayer Breakfast will be at 6:30 a.m. Friday, June 2, at the Grand Prairie Events with breakfast catered by The Bluestem. Speaker will be Dave Haugom. Cost is $10 at the door.

Lisa Dinger and Stacey Schepel with Luverne Public Schools are collaborating with the Luverne Optimist Club to offer school supplies for students in pre-school through grade 12. The only requirement you must meet to qualify is to be on the free or reduced meal program.
