Parkinson’s Support Group will meet at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, at St. John Lutheran Church to hear about the life experiences of two women. For more information call 507-530-3307.

County road restrictions end April 13

The ending date for spring weight road restrictions is Friday, April 13, on highways under the jurisdiction of the Rock County Highway Department. Call County Engineer Mark Sehr at 507-283-5010 with questions.

 

History Center open 10 a.m.-4 p.m.

The new History Center on East Main Street in Luverne will be open regularly from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Call 283-2122 with questions.

 

Concordia  Christus Chorus performs at St. John Good Friday

The internationally renowned Christus Chorus of Concordia University, St. Paul, will be part of the Good Friday Service at 7 p.m. Friday, April 14. The choir will perform sacred vocal music from their 2017 tour. The public is invited. There is no charge.

 

Crime victim to tell inside story at library April 15

 The Rock County Library will host Sandra Cheskey, the main character in the true crime story, “Gitchie Girl: The Survivor’s Inside Story,” by Phil Hamman and Sandy Hamman. The event will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 15.

Cheskey will share her experiences and memories  surrounding the mass murders of Nov. 17, 1973, at Gitchie Manitou State Park near Larchwood, Iowa.

A book signing/photo opportunity will follow the presentation, and books will be available for purchase.

 

Advanced care planning seminars

Karis Gust, RN, will present three seminars on advanced care planning at Good Samaritan Society locations in Luverne.

Sessions are at 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the Mary Jane Brown chapel; at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the Poplar Creek dining room; and at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, in The Oaks dining room.

Monthly Food Ministry April 20

The Monthly Food Ministry, sponsored by New Life Celebration Church, will be from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Luverne Senior Center. If you’re having trouble putting food on the table, come for fresh produce, bread and meat. Children will be asked to wait outside. Call Gloria at 283-4366 with questions.

 

Shrine Circus tickets available for free

Local businesses are sponsoring free Shrine Circus tickets for area children at the following locations: Teal’s Market, Teal’s Food and Gas, Minnwest Bank on Main Street and Kniss Avenue, First Farmers & Merchants Bank, Exchange State Bank, Pizza Ranch and at the April 6 Bank Nite Movie at the Palace. Hospice Charity Dinner and Auction

The annual Hospice Charity Dinner and Auction  is planned for April 22 at Grand Prairie Events in Luverne. Tickets are on sale at the hospice office at 211 E. Main Street in Luverne and can also be purchased with VISA or Master Card by calling 507-283-1805. 

 

Reserve sand for Optimist sandbox fill

The Luverne Optimist Club is sponsoring the annual youth sandbox fill Monday, May 17, starting at 6 p.m. Sand is donated by W&N Construction. Call Audrey at 507-283-2018 to sign up for sand delivery.
