Luverne Pink Ladies will meet at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10, at the Blue Mound Room at Sanford Luverne Hospital.

Summer fifth-grade band lessons
Summer fifth-grade band lessons will continue in the Luverne High School band room Monday, Aug. 10, to Thursday, Aug. 13. Lesson times are as follows: Flutes 1-1:30 p.m.; Clarinets 1:30-2 p.m.; Saxophones 2-2:30 p.m.; Trumpets 2:30-3 p.m.; Trombones 3-3:30 p.m.; Baritones/Tubas 3:30-4 p.m.; Percussion 4-4:30 p.m. Contact Angie Swenson at a.swenson@isd2184.net or 507-290-0147.
 
Women of Rock County Fine Arts show at Carnegie
Women of Rock County Fine Arts will show their new art work during the month of August at the Carnegie Cultural Center. The show includes work by Naidine Aanenson, Cindy Reverts, Kristen Peterson, Carol Ceynowa, Lois Young, Kathy Deuschle, Nan Kaufenberg, Judy Edenstrom, Mary Petersen, Lori Hallsrom and Kaia Nowatzki.
 
Bank Nite movie ‘Home’ Aug. 6
The free Bank Nite movie, “Home,” will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.
Sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants National Bank and Papik Motors, a free, family-friendly movie is shown on the first Thursday of every month as it was done for “Bank Nite” in the 1930s. A cash prize drawing will follow the movie. Must be present to win. Last month’s $50 cash winner was Maggie VanderBurg.
 
Bars and Banana Seats set for Aug. 8
The third annual Bars and Banana Seats bike ride around Luverne will be Saturday, Aug. 8, starting at 4 p.m. at the Howling Dog Saloon. Events and activities are as follows:
•Registration of bikes will start at 4 p.m. ($5 per bike)
•Silent auction (open to the public during the ride) will open at 4 p.m.
•Bottoms Up Pink Ladies will present a donation to a cancer fighter at 5:45 p.m.
•Kickstands up at 6 p.m.
•First stop: Sterling’s Grille then a goofy game in the Kawasaki parking lot
•Second stop: Take 16 Brewery for a guided tour with the master brewer
•Third stop: Creamery Pond for a silly game
•Fourth stop: Eagles Club for some chow and a crazy game
•Fifth stop: The Bluestem for a frivolous game
•Final stop: Howling Dog
•Silent Auction will close at 10 p.m.

LHS Activities Eligibility Meeting set for Aug. 11
The Luverne High School Activities Eligibility Meeting will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 11, in the Luverne Elementary School gymnasium. The meeting is required for all students (and their parents/guardians) who plan to participate in Minnesota State High School League activities in grades nine-12 during the 2015-16 school year.
 
School starts Aug. 24; schedules available Aug. 3 online
Luverne High School/Middle School begins Monday, Aug. 24. Student schedules are available online starting Monday, Aug. 3, and in the school office Monday, Aug. 10. Schedule changes should be done before school starts.
The High School/Middle School Open House is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20. Student photos will be taken in the elementary school gym. Picture packets will be available on site.
New residents to the Luverne District should register students for 2015-16 school year. Call to make an appointment at 283-4491 for Middle School and High School grades 6-12. Parents of elementary grades K-5 can call 283-4497.
