The Luverne Area Community Foundation has created a worthy dedicated fund called the Rock County Veterans Fund.
Don’t confuse this fund with the Rock County Veterans Memorial fund.
The Rock County Veterans Memorial Fund is dedicated to the perpetual care of the Veterans Memorial on the front lawn of the Rock County courthouse.
In fact, while you have the checkbook out, write two checks — one for each fund.
The Rock County Veterans Fund is a dedicated fund that has been set up because there has been interest from donors in this area to donate money to support organizations within our county committed to honoring the legacy of those that have served our country in the U.S. Armed Services.
Donations can be given in honor or memory of a person that has served.
Mary and I gave a donation in memory of my dad, who served in the Air Force, and my brother in Albuquerque, New Mexico, is sending in a check in memory of our mom.
While Mom never served as a member of the Armed Forces, she was a longtime active member in the American Legion Auxiliary.
A couple of weeks ago in this space, I shared with you a speech I gave on Memorial Day a number of years ago, and I talked about patriotic pride.
If you would like to show some patriotic pride, write a check in honor or memory of someone that occupies space in your heart.
Donating is easy to do. Just write a check to LACF, including a note with the person’s name and branch of service, and mail it to PO Box 623, Luverne, MN 56156.
Or, go to www.luvacf.org to place a credit card gift. Go to “donate now,” click on Rock County Veterans Fund and follow the prompts.
