Another great Hot Dog Night has come and gone.
You’re probably thinking summer has hit the midway point and you’re wondering, “Where did the summer go?” But then you realize there’s a lot more to come before we close the book on the summer of 2018.
The Rock County Fair gets underway next week.
There is a full slate of activities starting with 4-H exhibit judging Monday afternoon.
Wednesday also features a full day of 4-H events as well as the Talent Show/4-H fashion review in the comfort of the air-conditioned Palace Theatre.
Thursday features more 4-H events, evening races, a watermelon feed sponsored by Teal’s, and one of my favorites — the Rock Nobles Cattlemen’s Association beef feed starting at 5:30 p.m.
Friday is Senior Day with a 2:30 p.m. program featuring music by Bruce Dysthe. I get in line again to chow down at the Rock County Pork Producers pork feed starting at 5:30 p.m. The Friday night grandstand attraction is XTREME BULL riding and Mutton busting.
Saturday is Kids Day at the fair with lots of special afternoon activities. It’s the final day of the fair, but just as busy — if not the busiest day of the fair. The grandstand features the Enduro race starting at 7 p.m.
In addition to all of that, each day includes many other events such as bingo, wood carving, blacksmith, petting zoo, toy farm show, Kettle Corn, face-painting and Xtreme balls, to name a few.
Of course the midway will be up and running each day of the fair. New this year is Wristband Day on Thursday. Purchasing a wristband for $20 entitles you to take as many rides as you want from 5-9 p.m.
Changing gears for a moment, have you noticed the new landscaping at the Take 16 Brewing Company? One word sums it up for me. “Wow.”
So that makes it three great entrances to Luverne out of four.
You have the Sanford entrance from the north, the park, the new bridge and now Take 16 as you come into town from the east.
From the south you have Rotary Park and the electronic sign and at Main Street and Highway 75 you have the nicely done “four corners” with the flag park anchoring that intersection.
Next we can maybe work on the less-than-spectacular County Road 4 entrance on the west edge of Luverne … No, I am not complaining. What I just did was plant a seed.
