I have one final thought on the tremendously successful Fourth of July celebration at The Lake in Luverne. That thought is, before we get too attached to calling the lake “The Lake,” let’s change the name.
I know we had chances to throw a few name ideas around, but here is my thought: Seeing how Luverne’s Fourth of July celebration has found a home currently known as “The Lake,” why not pay tribute to the day we are celebrating?
Two names that come to mind for the old creamery pond are Lake Independence or Lake Liberty. Or we could flip-flop the words to have Independence Lake or Liberty Lake.
Let’s say the lake ends up being called Lake Liberty. We could name the road by the lake Independence Drive. If the lake ends up being called Lake Independence, the road could be named Liberty Lane.
The Fourth of July celebration and The Lake will always be linked together. Doesn’t celebrating the Fourth of July at Lake Independence have a nice ring to it?
I would love for next year’s headline to be “Fireworks Light up the sky over Lake Liberty!”

On the heels of a very successful Fourth of July, Luverne hit another one out of the park last week with what has been described as the best Hot Dog Night ever.
Kudos to all those involved. There’s no telling how many thousands of people were in town, but the streets of Luverne were packed with crowds.
Next up is the Rock County Fair, which is just around the corner next week. When you take a look at the schedule of events for the fair, it looks to be another homerun. So we’ll see you at the fair.
