As you are probably aware of, there are a number of ways you can tell when we are about to embark on a change of seasons — the calendar being the most obvious, but there are other signs as well.
When spring is just around the corner, you start to see more boats being trailered down the highway and fewer snowmobiles. You probably make a mental note when you see your first robin of the year, and I also bet you do the same when you see a motorcycle tooling down the road for the first time each spring.
So what I’m getting at here is that you can kind of get an idea of what events might be taking place in Luverne just by what you see being trailered around town.
For example, if you were paying attention to your surroundings last week, you probably noticed a few grills being transported around town. That is a sure sign that Hot Dog Night is coming up.
Back in June you might have noticed a number of cool cars crisscrossing the streets of Luverne. Those cars could have meant one of two things — or maybe both — they were in town for the Friday night cruise-in for Buffalo Days or maybe for the Papik Motor Classic car show.
A few weeks back darn near everywhere you looked you saw a car or truck toting a brightly colored kayak, a sure sign Rock The River was underway.
It won’t be long and the roar of motorcycles will be filling the air, tipping us off that it must be mid-August and the Sturgis rally is in full swing.
Locally keep you eyes open for the uptick in livestock trailers traversing Rock County roads next week. Those trailers mean it’s fair time.
I hate to be a summertime buzz killer but sorry, kids, not far down the road we’ll start to see those big yellow vehicles that seat 54. That’s right — it will be back to school time. Can the snowmobile trailer be far behind?
