Did you feel it this past Sunday and Monday? I bet you did, and you more than likely said, “Oh my! There’s a touch of fall in the air.” If you did, you would be right. Fall, football and pheasant hunting are just around the corner, and I, for one, couldn’t be happier.
The first day of fall isn’t until Sept. 22, but football is already underway, and the annual Rock County Pheasants Forever banquet is set for Thursday, Oct. 1.
The Luverne Cardinals’ first Friday night clash is actually on a Saturday this year. Yep, that’s right. The Cardinals’ first game this season is Saturday night under the lights. The Cardinals will host the neighboring Worthington Trojans. Kick-off is 7 p.m. Fans will be able to come early and enjoy Gold’n Plump chicken grilled to perfection with bun and chips for only $3 at the annual Gold’n Bowl beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Plans for the 31st annual Rock County Pheasants Forever are already underway with the banquet date of Oct. 1. Tickets for the banquet and gun raffles will be available starting next week, both of which you will be able to purchase at the Star Herald office.
The gun raffle is a bit different this year. By that I mean it’s awesome. It’s a gun raffle trifecta. Three guns, one winner. For $20 you get a chance to win a Henry Golden Boy 22, Henry Silver Boy 22 and a Henry Boy 22. If you would rather have the cash, you can take the cash option of $800.
By the way, if guns are your thing — or if you’re just a proud American and you want to help the Adrian American Legion Post 32 — the Legion is selling gun raffle calendars for 2016. The calendars cost $25, and that gets you a raffle ticket for the weekly gun raffle starting in January 2016.
I have a handful of calendars at the office if you’d like to buy one. A limited number of both the calendars and Pheasants Forever gun raffle tickets will be sold, so I wouldn’t wait too long if I were you.
