In a couple of days it will be August, normally one of my favorite months and also a busy one. We have a number of family birthdays and anniversaries throughout the month, and for me August is kind of the kick-off to fall.
Well, as we all know, normal has been replaced by the new normal – whatever the heck that is.
In addition to the family’s special days, the month of August normally means the start of the football season. And back in the day, school started in August and the hunting seasons seemed within reach.
Mary and I stopped out at the Rooster Ridge Wildlife Management Area just west of Beaver Creek over the weekend, and if yellow is your favorite color, you need to get out there and check out the sea of yellow blossoms.

Without a doubt one of the more interesting headstones we came across is the one for Moses Ferguson, March 13, 1820 – February 20, 1903. The headstone is about five feet tall and is in the shape of a tree trunk with a few designs carved into it.
Our unintended drive through tours of cemeteries has developed into one of our new normal pastimes in recent months. It should also come as no surprise that social distancing is fairly easy.
