“You are my friends if you do what I command you.” John 15:14
Our lives are full of obligations. Parents tell their children, “You can go out to play if you've finished your homework.” As adults we learn that certain tasks must be done or there will be consequences. If we don't put gas in the car, it won't run. In relationships, if we don't invest time and respect into our families, they won't have time or respect for us.
Jesus tells us that we will be His friends if we obey His commands. What does He command us? To love God and love each other. He says these are the greatest commandments.
Lord God, help me to love You and other people the way I should. Thank You for being my friend. In Jesus' name, Amen.
