It is God who directs our footsteps

“A man’s heart plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps.” (Proverbs 16:6)

These past few months have been a very trying time for our nation and the world. The coronavirus has had millions of people sheltering in place by order of local, state and federal governments. “We have to flatten the curve” became the battle cry.
Sadly, many have lost their ability to earn a living – money needed to feed their families, to pay the utility bills, or to pay the rent or make a mortgage payment. Many are worried and concerned for the future.
During these trying times it may be hard for some to hear that “God is in control” or that “It is God who directs our footsteps.” But it is true!
God often uses difficult circumstances to draw people to himself so they can learn to trust him and spend eternal life with him in heaven.
Our gracious Lord also provides for all of our needs. Jesus instructs and reminds us, “For this reason I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds in the air. They do not sow or reap or gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? Which one of you can add a single moment to his lifespan by worrying? So do not worry, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear?’ Certainly your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (Matt. 6: 25-33)
This is God’s higher purpose: to call you to come to faith in Jesus Christ, your Savior, and enjoy the fruits of faith both here in this world and in heaven when he calls you home to be with him.
God loves you so much that he sent his one and only Son into this world so that he could live the perfect life God expects of us. And then also to die on the cross as real payment for our sins, failures and worries. Jesus did just that! After his crucifixion, our Lord was placed in a grave, only to rise again from the dead three days later. His rising to life guarantees us that everything God promises us in the Bible is indeed true, and that we too will rise again one day.
Faith in Jesus’ life, death and resurrection is the only way to heaven.
Our Savior taught us this truth: “I am the Way and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
