Alcoholics Anonymous meets from 7 to 8 p.m. four days a week at St. John Lutheran Church, Luverne. Sundays — Big Book Study (open meeting); Tuesdays — Big Book Study (closed); Thursdays — 12-step study (closed); and Fridays — speaker meetings (open). Bank Night movie ‘Sherlock Gnomes’ June 7

The free Bank Nite movie, “Sherlock Gnomes,” rated PG, will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the Palace Theatre in Luverne.

Sponsored by First Farmers & Merchants National Bank and Papik Motors, a free, family-friendly movie is shown on the first Thursday of every month as it was done for “Bank Nite” in the 1930s. A cash prize drawing will follow the movie. Must be present to win.

 

Luverne Farmers Market starts  June 7

Luverne Farmers Market will be from 4 to 7 p.m. every Thursday from June 7 through Oct. 25, rain or shine, at Redbird Field just south of East Main Street.

Vendors now accept debit cards, credit cards, SNAP and EBT.

Kids are again welcome to participate in the Power of Produce Club. New vendors are always welcome. Register at the Luverne Chamber office, 283-4061.

 

Relay for Life at Luverne Elementary June 7

The 2018 Relay for Life will be indoors this year at the Luverne Elementary commons. Supper is from 5:30-7 p.m. with opening ceremonies beginning at 7. (See ad on page 8A.)

 

Nature walk at Touch the Sky June 9

Ethno-botanist Jeffrey Emmel will host a nature walk at Touch the Sky Prairie at 1023 171st Street north and west of Luverne beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 9. The first 100 children in attendance will receive a free butterfly net, courtesy of the Luverne Convention and Visitors Bureau. Refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.

 

Rock County Library announces summer reading program

The Rock County Community Library is excited to launch its 2018 summer reading program, “Reading Takes You Everywhere!” The program is open to ages Pre-K through grade 12.

During June and July the library will host a variety of events for families to encourage and support a love of reading. Participants will win prizes for reaching their reading goals.

Palace Theatre offers Kids Summer Cinema

This summer the Palace Theatre is offering kids’ movies at 9:30 a.m. for three Fridays, June 15, July 20 and Aug. 17. Admission is $5.

New Life Celebration Church will offer free food — fresh produce, bread and meat — from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the Luverne Senior Center at 319 E. Steen Reformed to host Allen Family concert June 24
