“Now there is great gain in godliness with contentment.” 1 Timothy 6:6
Sometimes we think life would be better “if only…” If only we made more money. If only we were more attractive. If only we were more talented. If only we hadn't made so many mistakes in the past.
The Bible encourages us to be content. Part of contentment is acceptance — acceptance of ourselves and the lives we've been given. Sometimes we can be pretty hard on ourselves, wondering if we are "good enough.” We need to let God recalibrate our thinking. First we need to trust in Him and believe that He lovingly made us and wants what is best for us. Then, when we've got the basics right, life is a whole new adventure.
Thank you, Lord, for the lives that you have given us. Teach us how to trust that you will lead us and guide us in wonderful ways for our good and your glory. Amen.
