Boys prevail in SWC opener Friday

By John RittenhouseThe Luverne boys’ hockey team opened Southwest Conference play by splitting two games.The Cardinals notched a seven-goal win against Redwood Valley at the Blue Mound Ice Arena Friday. A road game in Windom Monday resulted in an 11-goal loss for LHS.Luverne, 2-4 overall, hosts Marshall at 7:30 p.m. tonight.Windom 11, Luverne 0Windom’s Lee Fast and Markus Schultze netted three goals each to lead the Eagles to an 11-goal drubbing of the Cardinals Monday in Windom.The Eagles, which outshot the Cards 41-25 in the contest, scored six goals in the first period and never looked back.Jason Cook found the net twice for the winners. Brandon Fast, Matt Jansson and Jordan Lewis scored one goal each.Luverne 7, RWV 0The Cardinals opened conference play by rolling to a seven-goal home win over Redwood Falls Friday.Jordan Siebenahler scored five goals and Craig Rogers registered three assists to lead an LHS team that outshot RWV 35-17 in the contest.Adam Ossefort anchored the defense with a 17-save shutout.Siebenahler opened the scoring with an unassisted power-play goal in the first period.After Chris Fitzer netted a power-play goal in the second period, Siebenahler scored two short-handed tallies and added another goal before the second period was complete to make it a 5-0 game.Siebenahler capped his five-goal game 36 seconds into the third period before Casey Krueger ended the scoring with an unassisted effort.Chris Den Hoed, Anthony Graphenteen, Taylor Pederson and Aaron Altman recorded one assist each for the winners.
