Blue Mound Dairy feedlot expansion hearing set for March 20

Public NoticeClose Proximity Property Owners and Local Officials of the Rock County Planning & Zoning CommissionNotice is hereby given that the Rock County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Monday, March 20th, 2006, at the Rock County Family Services Building located at 2 Roundwind Road in Luverne, MN at 8:45 P.M. to act on the following conditional use permit application:Conditional use: Expansion of an existing feedlot over 1000 animal units.Property Owner: Blue Mound Dairy Legal Description: SW 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of section 28 in Mound Township, Rock County, Minnesota.The conditional use permit is for the expansion of an existing feedlot on the property described above. The existing feedlot consists of a 40’x128’ partial confinement with a 130’x380’ open lot to be closed and a 36’x48’ partial confinement with a 180’x200’ open lot to be closed housed 100 dairy heifers and is located on the south side of County Hwy 8. On the North side an existing 50’x420’ partial confinement with an 80’x420’ open lot with runoff controls and a 120’x580’ total confinement free stall barn house 600 dairy cows at 1.4 animal units, 30 dairy calves at a total of 846 animal units. All runoff and manure will be contained in an existing 126’x372’x10.5’ earthen basin and an existing 336’x380’x4’ earthen basin. The site currently has a total animal unit capacity of 916.The proposed facility consists of 100’x250’ total confinement free stall barn to house 100 head of dairy cows. Using 1.4 animal units per head, total animal units will be 140.The site after expansion will have a total capacity of 700 head of dairy cows, 100 head of dairy heifers, and 30 head of dairy calves equaling 1110 animal units. The described property is zoned as A-2, General Agriculture. All persons interested may appear and be heard at said time and place, or submit views in writing or by representative.
